What this exam is

Gujarat TET is the eligibility gate for teaching in the state's primary and upper-primary schools. Clearing it does not appoint you to anything; it makes you eligible to be considered. TET-1 covers Classes 1 to 5 and TET-2 covers Classes 6 to 8, and they are separate papers sat by different candidates.

Both papers are 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks with one mark each and no negative marking, so there is no reason to leave a blank. TET-1 splits evenly into five 30-question blocks: child development and pedagogy, Language I, Language II, mathematics and environmental studies. TET-2 tightens the first three to 25 questions each and hands the remaining 75 to a single subject block — either science with mathematics, or social studies, depending on what you intend to teach.

Two of the five sections are language papers in both formats — Language I is normally Gujarati and Language II is normally English, though Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu appear as options in practice. Together they are 60 of 150 marks at the primary level. Gujarat-specific content sits inside environmental studies and social studies at roughly 42 to 43% of those topics.

  • Candidates choose Language I and Language II from the options SEB permits — Gujarati and English are the common pair
  • TET-2 candidates must choose one subject stream, science with mathematics or social studies, at the point of application
  • Applications are made online through sebexam.org

Common questions

Gujarat TET — frequently asked

Who conducts Gujarat TET?

Gujarat Teacher Eligibility Test (TET-1 & TET-2) is conducted by State Examination Board (SEB), Gandhinagar.

When is the next Gujarat TET exam?

SEB runs TET on its own rhythm rather than an annual calendar you can set a watch by — TET-1 was held in December 2025 with the result in January 2026, and a further TET round opened for applications in March and April 2026. No forthcoming date was published at the time of writing. Because the certificate establishes eligibility rather than employment, the exam that actually matters for a job is the recruitment that follows it.

How many vacancies or seats does Gujarat TET have?

What is the Gujarat TET exam pattern?

Honesty note: Adversarial verify pass pending (agent budget) — both question keys manually re-solved and confirmed. The paper structure comes from a syllabus audit held in the AvM backend repository, which reconstructed the SEB syllabus from secondary sources and states plainly that the exact SEB PDF phrasing may differ and that Language II varies by candidate, with English modelled as the common case. Dates are the weakest part of this brief: several sources conflate Gujarat TET with Gujarat TAT, so a 3 May 2026 date reported for 'the TET exam' also appears elsewhere as a TAT date, and it is shown here with that caveat rather than treated as settled. The 21 December 2025 TET-1 sitting and its result are the firmest dates found. Because TET is an eligibility test rather than a recruitment, there is no vacancy count to report, and applicant numbers were not found. The 90-minute duration is confirmed for TET-1; the TET-2 duration was not separately verified. Eligibility requirements are restated in each SEB notification and should be read there.
