Bihar Police Sub-Inspector (Daroga)
1,799 posts, 7.26 lakh in the exam hall — and only Mains Paper 2 makes the merit list.
What this exam is
One exam fills Bihar's Daroga posts. The current cycle (Advt 05/2025) runs for 1,799 posts: 10.37 lakh candidates were admitted to Prelims, 7.26 lakh appeared — about 404 candidates per post. The funnel is brutal and public: 35,857 cleared Prelims into Mains, 10,759 survived Mains into the physical test. Every stage's cutoff is published, category by category, on bpssc.bihar.gov.in.
The structure hides a trap: three papers, one merit list. Prelims (GK + current affairs) only shortlists 20× the vacancies. Mains Paper 1, General Hindi, is qualifying at 30% — fail it and you are out, but its marks never count. Merit is built on Mains Paper 2 alone: GS, science, history, geography, maths, mental ability. Wrong answers cost 0.2 marks everywhere, and multi-shift papers are equi-percentile normalised. The bar climbs each stage: 130.67 to clear Prelims (UR male, 2026), 134 to reach the physical test, and 162.6 out of 200 was the 2023 final cutoff.
Then the ground stage: 6× vacancies reach the Physical Eligibility Test — a 1.6 km run in 6:30 for men, jumps, shot put — and it eliminates seriously. In the 2023 cycle, 3,061 of 6,788 who appeared were rejected, 2,300 of them on the run alone. Preparing for this exam means training Paper 2 to above 160 net marks at 72 seconds a question, and training your legs alongside.

Honesty note: Adversarial verify pass pending (agent budget) — both question keys manually re-solved and confirmed. All core figures decoded directly from official BPSSC PDFs. One conflict: news reports said 31,876 qualified for Mains; the official result PDF says 35,857 — the official figure is used. Question-paper medium is not stated in the official advert (bilingual Hindi/English is prep-site reporting only). PET timing is a press estimate, not a BPSSC notice. Registered-application totals (vs admitted) are unpublished.
