BPSC School Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE)
32,388 teaching posts, no negative marking — and a 30-question language paper that counts for nothing but can end your candidature.
What this exam is
Bihar's teacher recruitment has become the largest hiring exercise of its kind in the country. TRE 4.0 carries 32,388 posts across primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary levels, and it sits inside a stated plan to appoint roughly a lakh teachers between 2026 and 2030 — about 20,000 a year. The exam runs over six days, 22 to 27 September 2026.
The paper is 150 questions in two and a half hours with no negative marking, which changes the strategy completely: there is no reason to leave anything blank. What does the eliminating is the structure. Part I is a 30-question language section testing English plus one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla — purely qualifying at around 30%, contributing nothing to your rank, and fatal if you miss the bar. Merit is built from Part II, 40 General Studies questions, and Part III, 80 questions on your teaching subject and its pedagogy.
The primary-level variant reshuffles this: language 30 plus General Studies 120, with no separate subject paper. So the same notification is really several different exams, and which one you sit depends on the level you applied for. Bihar-specific material runs at about 46% of the General Studies topics.
Who can sit it
- Primary (Classes 1–5): the relevant teacher-training qualification plus the applicable Bihar TET or CTET pass
- Middle (Classes 6–8): graduation with B.Ed or the equivalent, plus the applicable eligibility test
- Secondary and higher secondary (Classes 9–12): a postgraduate degree in the teaching subject with B.Ed
- Requirements differ by level and subject; each TRE notification restates them
- Applications are made online through bpsc.bihar.gov.in

Honesty note: Adversarial verify pass pending (agent budget) — both question keys manually re-solved and confirmed. The pattern (150 questions, 150 marks, two and a half hours, no negative marking, Language 30 qualifying / GS 40 / Subject 80) comes from a syllabus audit held in the AvM backend repository, which reconstructed it from coaching portals for TRE 3.0 and 4.0 rather than a BPSC PDF. That audit flags its own uncertainty: BPSC has changed the format across TRE 1.0 to 4.0, including whether the language part is purely qualifying and how Parts II and III split by level. The vacancy figure is genuinely disputed — 32,388 is the most widely reported and is used here, but other outlets carry 46,595 and a vaguer '44,000+'; no official notification PDF was read in this pass. The 22–27 September exam window and the November result expectation come from portal reporting of a released schedule, not from a document we opened. Applicant numbers, previous-cycle results and cutoffs are not shown because they were not found. The 'concerned subject' content varies across dozens of subject options and is described only generically.
