Gujarat Teacher Aptitude Test (Secondary & Higher Secondary)
Two hundred marks, and 135 of them are about your subject and how to teach it — general knowledge is barely a fifth of one paper.
What this exam is
TAT is the eligibility test for teaching in Gujarat's secondary and higher secondary schools, run separately as TAT (Secondary) for Classes 9 and 10 and TAT (Higher Secondary) for Classes 11 and 12. Both run as a preliminary objective stage followed by a descriptive mains, and both were rescheduled during 2026 — the secondary prelims moved off its 26 April date because of local body elections, and the higher secondary mains slipped from 2 August to 8 August.
The preliminary stage is two papers of 100 marks each with a quarter-mark penalty for a wrong answer. Paper 1 is general studies, but weighted towards the profession rather than general awareness: teacher eligibility, aptitude and pedagogy take 35 marks, general knowledge and current trends in education 20, logical aptitude 15, and Gujarati and English language proficiency 15 each. Paper 2 is entirely your teaching subject — 80 marks of content and 20 of content-based method.
Add the two together and the picture is clear: 135 of the 200 preliminary marks are about your subject and how to teach it. This is not a general-awareness exam with a teaching flavour. Gujarat-specific material sits at about 40% of the general knowledge topics, which is a small slice of an already small section.

Four marks for a right answer, one off for a wrong one — a five-mark swing on every guess you get wrong.
Honesty note: Adversarial verify pass pending (agent budget) — both question keys manually re-solved and confirmed. The section-by-section mark split comes from a syllabus audit held in the AvM backend repository, which confirmed the counts against Adda247 and notes that exact SEB phrasing varies by year and notification. Two honest limits: the audit deliberately models only the objective preliminary stage, so the descriptive mains is described here in outline rather than detail, and per-section question counts were not published — only marks, which is why the questions column is left blank rather than filled with estimates. Several sources conflate Gujarat TAT with Gujarat TET, which is why the 51,971 mains shortlist figure is labelled as reported: it appeared in coverage that discussed both exams together and could not be tied to TAT with certainty. Dates moved repeatedly during 2026 — the secondary prelims came off 26 April for local body elections and the higher secondary mains moved from 2 to 8 August — and the dates shown are the last ones reported before each sitting. No vacancy count applies, since TAT establishes eligibility rather than appointment.
